Times Table Answers

Symbol, Repeated

The block below repeats the word symbol 100 times. If you came here for the times symbol itself, it is ×, and this page has that too, with the counts for the larger blocks.

Repeat it 100, 1000 or 10,000 times

100 copies — 699 characters.

The times symbol is ×

Select it here: ×

It is Unicode U+00D7, multiplication sign, written × in HTML. On a Windows keyboard, hold Alt and type 0215 on the number pad. It is not the letter x, which is U+0078, so a find-and-replace for x will walk straight past it.

Which mark belongs where

  • × in plain writing and schoolwork, as in 100 × 15 = 1500 on the 100 times 15 page.
  • * in Excel, Google Sheets and code. Spreadsheets reject × in a formula.
  • the dot operator, used in algebra where × would read as a variable.

The look-alike characters, and why picking the wrong one causes trouble later, are set out on the times sign page.

The word, repeated

The word is six letters, seven with the space that joins one copy to the next. So 100 copies is 699 characters, one under 7 × 100. A thousand copies is 6,999 and ten thousand is 69,999.

Two numbers worth knowing before you paste: 23 copies fill a 160-character text segment exactly, with nothing left over, and 285 copies is the most that fits in one 2,000-character Discord message.

For a run of periods rather than a word, use symbol dot repeated. For anything else, the box on repeat text takes a whole sentence.
